Retailers say laptop sales in Russia fall over 10% in Jan–June

MOSCOW, Jul 5 (PRIME) – Russia’s laptop sales decreased by more than 10% on the year in January–June with the Asian brands being among the bestsellers, market participants told PRIME on Wednesday.

“On the whole, interest to laptops fell by 14% on the year. Online demand for laptops of almost all the producers, including devices of the most popular brands, also fell,” a representative of price comparing service Price.ru said.

HP lost 36%, Asus 35%, Acer and Lenovo 29%, Toshiba 24%, and Apple fell by 7%, while MSI leaped by 38%, Huawei by 47%, Xiaomi by 8%, Digma by 88%, and Gigabyte by 139%.

“Probably, the trend shows replacement of the manufacturers that left Russia with new brands,” the representative said.

In absolute terms, gaming laptops remained the most popular in online retail, yet their sales decreased by 9%.

Mobile operator MTS, which also runs a retail chain, said that laptop sales plunged by 12% on the year to 1.1 million in January–May. The average price contracted by 15% to 57,300 rubles.

MSI had 15% of the market in units, while Huawei had 14.5%, and Asus 10%, according to MTS.

In the merged retail chain of operators MegaFon and Yota, laptops sales rocketed by 150% on the year in January–June.
